Quick Review: Mariner of the Seas, July 2018

The wife and I just recently came back from a 4 night Bahamas cruise on Mariner of the Seas.  Last time we were on Mariner was about 13 years ago so we were excited to see the ship after she just had a renovation costing over $100 million.

Overall, the ship was in great shape.  We didn't really get to try out any of the new additions to the ship like the SkyPad, the Flowrider, or the new water slides but they all looked like they were pretty cool.  Inside, Royal Caribbean also added a new sports bar, Playmakers, which was pretty crowded every day.  They sell food there for an extra charge and have a small pool table and other "bar games".  The Tiki bar, The Bamboo Room, is also pretty unique but didn't seem as popular as Playmakers.  May have been the fact that the Playmakers features a bunch of TVs and they were showing the World Cup.

We stopped in Nassau and Coco Cay but one of the more interesting sights was the new terminal under construction in Miami that will be home to Allure of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas.  It looks huge and should be pretty nice when it's completed.  Sadly, we didn't get off at Coco Cay but you could tell there was a lot of work going on there, building up the island and adding a pier as part of Royal Caribbean's enhancements.

It was a great cruise.  No real complaints.  Once again, we met some wonderful people and had a great time.  We dined in the main dining room each night and the food and staff were excellent.

Not sure if we will be doing many more "short" cruises though.  They just seem to go by so fast.

Hits:

  • Meeting new friends
  • Improvements to the ship
  • Great Staff

Misses:

  • Not sure about The Bamboo Room, didn't seem very popular
